Technical Theatre 15 delves into sound, lighting, costuming, makeup, set design, and stage management, offering a behind-the-scenes view of live theatre. Building on this foundation, Technical Theatre 25 empowers students to design lighting, props, and costumes for major productions, collaborating closely with directors. In Technical Theatre 35, students provide technical support for various events, including Remembrance Day Services and Drama Productions. With hands-on experience and opportunities for volunteering, students gain practical skills in all aspects of technical theatre, complemented by the chance to attend live performances. Instrumental Music
The Instrumental Music program, building upon prior musical experience, students enhance skills developed in junior high. The curriculum covers technical proficiency, sight-reading, theory, music history, and concert performance. Students cultivate competencies in performing, listening, creating, researching, and appreciating music. Instrumental Music 20 requires completion of Instrumental Music 10, while Instrumental Music 30 necessitates Instrumental Music 20. In these advanced stages, students delve deeper into composition, preparing original pieces, and culminating in a final recital. The program fosters a commitment to musical excellence and personal growth, catering to a wide range of musical abilities.
Fine Arts Certificate
The fine and performing arts are for everyone whether you choose to explore and develop a new interest or specialize in a current interest. Participation in the arts enhances your creativity, critical thinking and problem solving abilities. A minimum of 30 credits in the Fine Arts is required plus Leadership in the Arts 35. Students are able to determine their own personal pathway to achieving the certificate and may include courses from the fine and performing arts, select Career and Technology Studies, locally developed courses or related work experience.
Leadership in the Arts
Leadership in the Arts is a program of cross-disciplinary study, which encourages critical thinking, creative, entrepreneurial and innovative learning. This course will prepare students, regardless of their future careers, to continue to participate and be leaders in the Arts. The Arts play important roles in shaping communities, culture and the economy. Leadership in the Arts extends disciplinary learning from Art, Dance, Drama, Creative Writing, Film and Music outside the walls of the school and builds understanding of how students can continue to be involved in the Arts as professionals, community leaders and entrepreneurs. This course will have a strong community focus and will reflect local opportunities for the Arts.
