Traffic Safety

Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.

Traffic Safety Reminders from The City of Calgary

The City wants to remind and encourage anyone who is driving children to school to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. Parents and guardians are reminded not to park where it’s prohibited during drop off and pick up times, such as blocking crosswalks, laneways and private driveways.

Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible.

Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

Traffic Flow

As a community school, with our students coming from near-by communities, we hope that many students are planning on walking and biking to school, weather permitting.  On days that you are dropping off or picking up your student by car, please be aware of the following:

  • We ask that you drive around the staff parking lot and not turn left into the smaller visitor loop.  This will allow for smoother traffic flow which will help you to move on and off the property quickly and efficiently.
  • Please do not drive through the staff lot.  All spots will be assigned to staff.
  • For pick-up, if possible, arriving after 3:45 pm (classes end at 3:30 pm) is recommended as traffic has lessened, and you will be able to move around the loop more easily.
  • Please note that the speed on our property needs to be 10 km/h or less, and our speed bumps are designed to facilitate this slower speed.
  • Please do not stop in front of our automotive shop as customers may be picking up their vehicles.
  • Pick up works most smoothly if your student is waiting for you instead of you waiting for your student.  Space for pick up is limited.

Student Parking

  • Student Parking information will be provided soon.  Students initially (likely for the month of September) will be able to park in our student lot on a first come, first served basis.
  • Students arriving later may need to park in the neighbourhood if all student parking spots are occupied.
  • Students may not park in visitor parking. Therefore, please make sure that your student has investigated parking opportunities off campus prior to driving to school.
  • When parking in the neighbourhood, students must ensure that they are not parking on private property or in restricted parking areas.
  • Students driving onto our property are expected to follow traffic laws and exhibit attentive, cautious and safe driving habits.
  • Students are not allowed to hang out in the student parking lot, play loud music from their vehicles or leave garbage behind.
  • All offenses will be investigated and followed up with measures including the loss of the privilege to drive on our property.  Safety and excellent community relations are our primary goals.

Parking Passes

  • Student Parking Passes will be available and applications need to be completed.  More information will be provided during the month of September.
  • Once this application process begins, we will communicate this to you.  Please do not come to the office asking for parking applications before the announced time.
  • As deadlines will be involved, please make sure to look for this information in these communications.
