Good Afternoon Nighthawk Families

Welcome to North Trail and the first official Nighthawk News release of the 2025-2026 school year. The purpose of Nighthawk News is to keep our learning community updated about the events happening in and around the school. Topics covered usually include celebrations, activities in the building, reminders, educational opportunities, upcoming events, and dates of significance. The Nighthawk News is sent out at the end of each week, usually around 4:30pm. Please check your email weekly to stay updated. As a school community, we will also send other important communication using School Messenger.

Modified Schedule

Students' first official day of school will be on Tuesday, September 2. During the first week, students will be on a modified schedule from Tuesday-Thursday. These changes have been reflected in Power School. Here is a copy of the schedule for the week. On Tuesday, the Grade 10s will arrive at the start of the day and meet in the gym. Grades 11-12 will arrive for 11:30am.

Modified Schedule First Week

School Photos

This week most grade 10-12 students had their photos taken for their school ID. Students are expected to have their school ID on their person at all times while at North Trail. If your child was unable to take their photo this week, there will be a photo make up day on September 11. Please double check the upcoming Nighthawk News for more information.

School Store

The school store will be open after school next week to allow students to purchase their gym strip, Nighthawk wear, and math workbooks.

Nighthawk Café

Our Nighthawk Café sells a variety of baked goods, soups, sandwiches, and specialty items. Items in the café are halal friendly. The Café will open for service the week of September 15-19. This start date allows time for our new Culinary students to be trained in food safety, food service, and operation of the cash registers. In the interim, we encourage students to pack a full lunch. At a later date, a menu for the month of September will be provided.

Annual Notification of Video Surveillance

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the School Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33.

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and  law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.

Traffic Flow, Student Pick Up, and Student Parking

Traffic Flow

As a community school, with our students coming from near-by communities, we hope that many students are planning on walking and biking to school. On days that you are dropping off or picking up your student by car, please be aware of the following:

  • We ask that you drive around the staff parking lot and not turn left into the smaller visitor loop.  This will allow for smoother traffic flow which will help you to move on and off the property quickly and efficiently.
  • Please do not drive through the staff lot.  All spots will be assigned to staff.
  • For pick-up, if possible, arriving after 3:45 pm (classes end at 3:30 pm) is recommended as traffic has lessened, and you will be able to move around the loop more easily.
  • Please note that the speed on our property needs to be 10 km/h or less, and our speed bumps are designed to facilitate this slower speed.
  • Please do not stop in front of our automotive shop as customers may be picking up their vehicles.
  • Pick up works most smoothly if your student is waiting for you instead of you waiting for your student.  Space for pick up is limited.

Student Parking

  • Students will be able to apply for a parking pass which will allow them to park in our student lot.  Students initially will be able to park in our student lot on a first come, first served basis.  Once successful parking pass applicants have been notified, students can only park in the specific spot that has been assigned to them.  Please send interested students to the office to pick up a parking pass application after September 8. 2025.  The fee for parking on our student lot will be $50.00 for the school year, 2025-26.
  • Students arriving later in the morning may need to park in the neighbourhood if all student parking spots are occupied.
  • Students may not ever park in visitor parking. Therefore, please make sure that your student has investigated parking opportunities off campus prior to driving to school.
  • When parking in the neighbourhood, students must ensure that they are not parking on private property or in restricted parking areas.
  • Students driving onto our property are expected to follow traffic laws and exhibit attentive, cautious and safe driving habits.
  • Students are not allowed to hang out in the student parking lot, play loud music from their vehicles or leave garbage behind.
  • All offenses will be investigated and followed up with measures including the loss of the privilege to drive on our property.  Safety and excellent community relations are our primary goals.
  • Periodically, Calgary Parking Services will patrol our lots and ticket vehicles not displaying appropriate parking passes or parked inappropriately.

Student Lockers

  • Students taking Physical Education classes will be assigned a small locker in the PE change rooms during the semester in which they are taking PE.  This locker is an excellent place to keep PE clothing and a place for a wallet or cell phone while in PE class.
  • General lockers are also available.  Students will have the opportunity to apply for a locker within their Trail Time (homeroom) after the first week of school.
  • Lockers will be shared with two students per locker.  Locker partners will be assigned.
  • Many students do not make use of a locker because the locker is often not conveniently located within the building and with respect to the different classes in their schedule each semester.
  • More information will be provided during Trail Time and interested students can apply for a shared locker space.
  • ***Please Note | Locker combinations should never be shared with others.
