Competition Opportunity
The NCTR would like to share that the deadline to apply for the 2025-2026 Imagine a Canada program has been extended to February 14, 2026. Youth from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and CÉGEP are invited to participate by submitting artwork, essays, videos, and music, as well as plans for community events, gatherings, workshops, permanent installations, and more… The sky is the limit! We are encouraging dedicated teachers, mentors, parents, and guardians such as yourself to challenge youth to think outside of the box to Imagine a Canada reconciled: up to 12 pieces from the art and essay stream will be selected to be featured in a special artbook and up to 15 projects will receive grant funding (up to $1500) to make their projects happen.
Looking for ideas on how to participate? Here are a few examples! You can find more ideas at Example Projects.
- Write an essay about what Reconciliation means to you;
- Design and install a mural honouring an Indigenous role model;
- Invite a speaker to talk about their residential school experience or minobimaadiziwin (living the good life);
- Organizing a run to raise awareness about an area of passion (like Indigenous health and wellness or MMIWG2S);
- Host a collection drive for sporting equipment to support Indigenous sports programs;
- Hold a series of cultural workshops on beading or moccasin making;
- Plant a medicine garden or Heart garden or community garden.
The extended deadline to apply for the 2025-2026 program is February 14, 2026.
The application for the art and essay stream can be found at Art and Essay Stream, and the application for the project stream can be found at Project Stream.
We hope you'll share this news with others and encourage youth to participate individually, or as a group!
