Good Afternoon Nighthawk Families,
There was a noticeable buzz in the building this week, in anticipation of spring break. Before departure to other destinations, here is a little information about what has been happening at NTHS this past week.
Wrestling Provincials
This past weekend NTHS participated in the Provincials for Wrestling. Nine of our athletes participated, and out of 78 schools that competed this weekend, we placed 5th! Here is a breakdown of the placements:
Student | Placement |
Tyssen Hansen | 1st in his weight class |
Kaden deCastro | 2nd |
Ban Thach | 2nd |
Kamso Dike | 3rd |
Richard Castillo | 5th |
Samantha Omamogho | 5th |
Kiara Careddu | 6th |
Robotics
Our two Nighthawks Robotics teams competed at the Alberta Provincial Championship this past weekend (March 15 & 16). This event brings together the top 32 teams in Alberta to compete for a chance to go to Worlds in Houston, Texas.
In the round robin, our rookie team, 26145, finished 5th and our senior team, 24124, finished 12th. Both teams made it to the playoffs, with 26145 being captain of their alliance. Unfortunately, both teams run came to an end in the quarter finals. While they did not make Worlds, we are waiting to hear if they will advance to a Premier event held in Edmonton where they will compete against other elite teams.
This year, by statistical rankings, 24124 finished 3rd in Alberta and 26145 Finished 8th. In addition, both teams are currently ranked in the top 10% of the teams in the world. This was an amazingly successful year.
Grade 12 Scholarships
Did you know there are hundreds of scholarships available to Alberta high school students?
You will find more information in our Student Services D2L shell, as well as through the document below:
Education Matters is a great source for student awards and scholarships for Calgary students and applications are now open. Go to the Education Matters website to see which scholarships you are eligible for. Spring Break would be a great time to apply for scholarships!
North Trail School Planning Survey
We would like to gather parental feedback on the North Trail School Planning Survey for 2025. It takes about 13 minutes to complete. School documents related to this survey can be found on our website.
Share your feedback on school planning.
Spring Sports
NTHS teams have begun tryouts and practices for spring sports. Teams will start play quite quickly after the break. Please check our Athletics Instagram page for more information.
