Good Afternoon NTHS Families,

Please read through the information below carefully, as some planned activities have been modified or cancelled due to CUPE job action.

Debate Teams Going to Provincials

Out of 6 possible spots available to go to the Debate Provincials, North Trail took two of them! The teams of Ayesha/Wilson & Jaiya/Sarah have qualified. Congratulations to all those who participated including Eni and Hazel. Thank you to Ms. Fraser, Mr. Hanna, and Ms. Fehres for volunteering. Go Nighthawks Go!

Surveys

Thank you to all students, parents, and staff who completed surveys this week. The Alberta Education Assurance Survey will be open to parents until Friday, March 21. So far, we have a 5% parent completion rate. Parents, when you have a moment, please complete the survey. Codes and links have been sent to you by email.

2025-2026 Course Registration

Please ensure that your child has entered their course selections in PowerSchool for the upcoming school year. Throughout the month of March, Student Services will meet with each student to check their graduation plans and confirm course selections. Having courses accurately recorded in PowerSchool helps us create a timetable that ensures space for students in their required courses.

2025 Iftar

Our Iftar celebration, which was to take place on March 6, is currently on hold due to the CUPE job action. If the strike ends during Ramadan, we will attempt to find an alternate date. Please stay tuned for more details.

School Council Meeting Moved Online

The School Council Meeting on Wednesday, March 5 from 6:30-8:30 has been moved online due to CUPE job action. On Monday, an email will be sent to families with the Teams Link for the meeting later this week.

Alice in Wonderland Tickets

The NTHS Drama Society presents “Alice in Wonderland- Down the Rabbit Hole”- an adaptation by Mark Landon Smith. Tickets are currently being sold to families of students involved in the performance. Due to the CUPE job action, there will be no tickets available to the general public at this time.

Tickets are $10/person and are available for Wednesday, March 12 or Thursday, March 13. Doors will open at 6:30 pm each night and seating will be on a first come first served basis (There are no assigned seats). The performance will begin at 7:00pm.

Jostens Grad Ring Sales

Jostens will be back this week to sell grad rings and clothing (including hoodies, sweatpants, and jackets). Please look for them during lunch in the Moyis, on Thursday, March 6.

Off-Campus Education Updates & Opportunities

We are happy to invite any students interested in applying for the Dual Credit and Exploratory programs for Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 cohorts to join us for an in-school information session on Tuesday, March 4, during lunch in the theatre.

This session is specifically for students who have not yet had a meeting with our Off-Campus Coordinator and are looking for more information about the programs, as well as helpful tips on how to create a strong application.

Please note, these programs are rigorous and require demonstrated work readiness. Academic and attendance records (including lates) will be reviewed as part of the acceptance process.

As Ms. Lockyer will be on medical leave for surgery recovery (We wish her a speedy recovery!), Ms. Canu-Budd (Off Campus Coordinator from John G. Diefenbaker High School / CAREERS Next Gen Liaison) and Ms. MacDonald will be hosting the session and offering support throughout the application season (March 6 - April 11).
