Good Afternoon NTHS Families

Last night the building was bustling. In addition to our sports teams being engaged in various matches, we were also hosting a debate competition, with over 150 students participating. Students debated about the topics of homework and urbanization. One of our North Trail teams placed third in the overall competition.

While many families will be celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend, there are also a number of other significant events happening this week. Please see the list below.

Significant Events

October 12: Yom Kippur and Dussehra

October 16: International Pronouns Day and Sharad Purnima

October 17: International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

October 16-23: Sukkot

Individualized Program Plans (IPPs)

If your child has an IPP, you should be receiving it digitally today via email. Please remember to review the details of the IPP with your child and sign it.

Senior Screamer

Next Friday and Saturday (October 18-19), we will be hosting a 28 team Halloween themed volleyball tournament. Both our senior teams will be participating. There will be 16 girls' teams and 12 boys' teams, including teams from the Yukon. Games will be played at Vivo, Nose Creek School, and at NTHS. There will also be a skills competition and coaches game. Check our Athletics Instagram page for more information.

School Council Volunteer Coordinator

Our NTHS School Council needs your help and is seeking a volunteer coordinator. The role of the coordinator is to support teachers and the school in obtaining volunteers for field trips and extra-curricular activities. The coordinator would work with our NTHS admin secretary to create a master list of volunteers. The coordinator would also gather information from staff about upcoming activities, share those opportunities with volunteers, and coordinate volunteer sign up for activities. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the school. If you are interested or have further questions, please contact Stephanie Bissky, our School Council Chairperson at nighthawksparentsociety@gmail.com

En Route to and from School

We are asking for your help!  Community members have been contacting North Trail with a concern.  Students waiting at a bus stop near the school and on their way home have been throwing items such as Slurpee cups and even rocks at passing cars.  Clearly this is not part of the welcoming and safe environment we want to provide for our community.  We are encouraging you to contact police if such an event should affect you.  If you are able to safely take a photo of an offending student, please send it to our school email so that we can follow up with this individual.

There have also been community complaints about parents stopping in the right hand lane of traffic at the Panatella Gate traffic light. Instead of continuing through the green light, parents have been stopping to load children into their vehicles. This situation is unsafe and impedes traffic for families who need to turn right at the light.

We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! Remember that there is no school on Monday.
