Each week we will be sharing information with you, through School Messenger, about events happening around the school. In our weekly email, we will highlight any special events, school activities, and information regarding school policy. Please read this message to stay informed.

• Terry Fox Run / Next week is our first Terry Fox Run! This year’s event for North Trail High School is scheduled for Friday, September 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Please help us promote this event and encourage as many students as possible to set goals and be active in our community by participating in either the 3km walk/wheel or 5km run. School Activities 

Tutorials 

Tutorials for all core subjects will begin the week of September 9. Students can access extra help in each of the following areas each Monday – Thursday morning from 8:15-8:50 am. 

English Language Arts – Room 1416 

Mathematics – Room 2422 

Sciences (Including Chemistry, Physics & Biology) - Room 2446 

Social Studies – Room 1436 

All other tutorials will happen in teacher classrooms, shops, or other learning spaces. 

School Cafeteria 

The cafeteria will be opening for light lunch service on Monday. Students will be able to purchase soups and refreshments. On September 22, a full lunch service menu will start. 

School Policy Reminders 

Athletics Spectator Policy 

Please note that all Athletic events at North Trail High School follow a limited spectator policy to comply with the Calgary Senior High School Athletics Association. The guidelines that will be followed are: 

• Students from the two participating schools need to show their school ID for admission to the gym.  
• Families (parents/guardians/grandparents) of players only. **Extended family members must be accompanied by a player’s parent/guardian  
• No alumni from visiting schools  
• School access is restricted to the gym and washrooms near the gym.  
• There is no vaping or smoking on school property, including the parking lot, washrooms and gymnasium. Those caught vaping or smoking will be asked to leave immediately.  
• Student and spectator code of conduct will be expected.  

Personal Mobile Device Policy 

• Implementation of the personal mobile device policy has been an overall success 
• Students have been more focused on learning while in their classrooms 
• This is just a reminder that earbuds are also part of this policy and they need to be removed in the classroom and during instructional time 
• Students who are requesting an exemption would need to complete a Student Health Plan form https://insite.cbe.ab.ca/FormsManuals/Student-Health-Plan.pdf

Being a Good Neighbour 

• We have had some complaints about garbage being left in the community 
• At lunch, please make sure to clean up after yourselves and use the garbage bins around the property 
• Remember to also abide by traffic light laws, and, as a pedestrian only cross when you have the walk signal. This is for your safety and to allow the proper flow of traffic. 

Annual Notification of Video Surveillance 

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property. 

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the School Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33. 

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and  law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
