Good Afternoon Nighthawk Families
The first week of the 2025-2026 school year is in the books. It was great to see students back in the building and to feel that first week energy. There are a lot of activities starting up in the building, so please make sure to read the Nighthawk News weekly to stay informed and also check Instagram. For sports related information, check our Athletics Instagram Page. The links are provided at the bottom of this message.
New School Resource Officer
This year we have a new School Resource Officer (SRO) at North Trail. His name is Constable George Kovacs. This week he spoke to students at our Grade Level assemblies about his experience as a police officer, his dream of becoming an SRO, his role within the school, and the importance of students staying on the right path. Throughout the year, he may be dropping by some classes to engage in conversations and present any relevant information. Constable Kovacs will also be supporting Notre Dame School.
Activities in the Building
Photo Makeup Day
Students who are new to the school or students who were unable to get their photos taken on August 27-29 will be able to get their photos taken this week, on Thursday, September 11. Please note that this is not photo retake day. Students who would like retakes can do so on October 23. Please see the photo schedule below:
Time | Grade Level | Last Name |
Period 2 8:55-10:00 | Grade 10 | A-Z |
Period 2 10:00-10:23 | Grade 11 | A-K |
Period 1 10:26-11:54 | Grade 11 | L-Z |
Period 4 12:31-1:59 | Grade 12 | A-K |
Period 3 2:02-3:30 | Grade 12 | L-Z |
Students will be expected to always have their school ID with them. This year we are only providing lanyards to students in Grade 10. Students in Grades 11-12 who did not previously obtain a North Trail lanyard can come to the office to receive one.
Spare Stickers
Spare stickers will be handed out this upcoming week by the Assistant Principals. We will be found in the Moyis and Learning Commons. For students to get a sticker, they will need to show a copy of their schedule in Power School and have their school photo IDs. Spare stickers can only be put on the back of this year's school ID. Students in CALM can also obtain a spare sticker, as it is an online class. However, if a student falls behind in CALM, they will be expected to attend class until they are fully caught up. During their spares, students who remain on campus are expected to be in the Moyis or the Learning Commons. Students who have a last block spare are encouraged to go home during their spare.
Traffic Flow, Student Pick Up, and Student Parking
Traffic Flow
As a community school, with our students coming from near-by communities, we hope that many students are planning on walking and biking to school. On days that you are dropping off or picking up your student by car, please be aware of the following:
- We ask that you drive around the staff parking lot and not turn left into the smaller visitor loop. This will allow for smoother traffic flow which will help you to move on and off the property quickly and efficiently.
- Please do not drive through the staff lot. All spots will be assigned to staff.
- For pick-up, if possible, arriving after 3:45 pm (classes end at 3:30 pm) is recommended as traffic has lessened, and you will be able to move around the loop more easily.
- Please note that the speed on our property needs to be 10 km/h or less, and our speed bumps are designed to facilitate this slower speed.
- Please do not stop in front of our automotive shop as customers may be picking up their vehicles.
- Pick up works most smoothly if your student is waiting for you instead of you waiting for your student. Space for pick up is limited.
PLEASE DO NOT STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF MOVING TRAFFIC TO HAVE YOUR STUDENT ENTER OR EXIT YOUR VEHICLE. U-TURNS ARE ALSO NOT PERMITTED.
WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY CALGARY POLICE SERVICES TO FACILITATE THE SAFEST WAY FOR OUR FAMILIES TO MOVE ONTO AND OFF OUR PROPERTY. THIS ADVICE RESULTED IN THE GUIDELINES ABOVE.
Student Parking
Student parking spot applications will be available from the main office on Monday, September 8. These applications must be carefully read and completed at home. The student must then bring the completed application form to the main office with their driver's license so that we can keep a copy of it.
All applications will be reviewed and a list of successful applicants will be posted in the main office. Students can then get a parking pass and will be assigned a specific spot for parking.
If a student does not follow all regulations governing parking and driving on our property, their parking privileges will be revoked.
Until the process of parking applications has been completed, parking in our student lot is first come, first served.
