Good Afternoon Nighthawk Families,
As we return to school following the Alberta Teacher’s strike, our focus this week has been on reconnecting, reassuring, refocusing and reengaging in academic learning. Teachers and staff are working closely with students to reestablish routines, prioritize well-being, and rebuild our sense of community. Alongside this, we are placing a strong emphasis on reinvigorating academic learning, reviewing key concepts, and setting clear academic goals to help students regain momentum.
We know the past few weeks have brought disruption, and we’re committed to supporting every student with care, consistency, and high expectations. Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we move forward together.
Reminders & Procedures
Here are a few important reminders as we return to our routines:
Excused Absences If your child will be away, please contact the school through our main office at 403-817-3700 Option 1. Please use the following format when reporting student absences:
- Full name of the student (please also spell the name)
- Grade
- What periods will they be missing
- Reason for their absence (sickness, appointment, etc.)
Annual Forms Families are encouraged to log in to their MyCBE account to complete any outstanding Annual Start-Up Forms. These forms are essential for ensuring up-to-date contact information, permissions, and supports. If you're unsure how to set up a MyCBE account, please call the main office or drop by—we’re happy to help!
Tutorials Tutorials are a great way for students to get support with tough concepts, review material, and boost confidence. We encourage families to check with your student’s teachers for individual or department tutorial times. These sessions are designed to help students stay on track and succeed.
Updated Term Dates
Due to the strike, our academic calendar has shifted:
- Term 1 now ends on November 14 (previously October 29)
- Term 2 begins on November 17 (previously October 30)
This change may affect some courses more than others, particularly CALM, where Term 2 students will begin their course after the switch. Teachers will provide updates as needed.
Report Cards & IPPs
Report Card timelines have been adjusted to reflect the new term dates. More details will be shared soon.
Individual Program Plans (IPPs) will now be sent out by November 21. Please check your email for a message from your child’s Trail Time teacher. Once received, review, sign, and return it promptly.
School Council Meeting – November 5
We invite all parents and guardians to join us for our upcoming School Council meeting on Wednesday, November 5 at 6:00 PM. A light meal will be served starting at 5:30 PM, so come early, connect with other families, and share your voice in our school community. We look forward to seeing you there!
Remembrance Day
Our school will observe Remembrance Day on Wednesday, November 5 during students’ Trail Time. Each homeroom teacher will lead a reflective activity in a smaller setting to honor veterans and explore the importance of peace and remembrance.
On Friday, November 7, our school will participate in a school-wide moment of silence to collectively pay tribute to those who have served and sacrificed. These moments are a meaningful part of our school’s commitment to reflection, respect, and gratitude.
Athletics Update
We’re thrilled to announce that athletics will resume next week! Stay tuned for updated schedules, team information, and sport-specific policies. We can’t wait to see our Nighthawk athletes back in action.
Photo Retake
Photo retakes were confirmed after the memo went out, so please let your students know that Photo Retakes and Fall Athletic Photos will be this Thursday, November 6
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences
PTS Conferences will be rescheduled for later this month. We’ll share the new dates and booking instructions as soon as they’re finalized.
